About Split

Split is Croatia’s second-largest city and the gateway to the Dalmatian islands. Its old town grew inside the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, built by a Roman emperor around 300 AD and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of cafés, shops and apartments.

From Split, ferries and catamarans connect to Hvar, Brač, Vis and Šolta, while Trogir, Omiš and the Makarska Riviera are within an hour’s drive.

Tips from our drivers

  • Catching a ferry? Let us know the departure time and we plan the journey with a comfortable buffer.
  • Summer weekends mean heavy traffic on the A1 motorway — start early.
  • Plitvice tickets should be bought online in advance in summer.
  • Accommodation in the old town: cars can’t enter the palace, so we drop you at the closest point.
