About Plitvice Lakes
Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s oldest and largest national park and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979. The lakes are formed by travertine barriers that keep growing, so the waterfalls change from year to year. Colours range from emerald to azure depending on the minerals, the light and the season.
The park has two main entrances. Entrance 1 is closest to the Great Waterfall, the tallest in Croatia; Entrance 2 is better for the Upper Lakes. Your driver drops you at the entrance that fits your route and picks you up at the other end – something a bus tour cannot do.
Tips from our drivers
- Buy tickets online in advance in summer – the park limits the number of visitors per hour.
- Wear good shoes: the boardwalks can be wet and you will walk 8–12 km.
- Spring and autumn are the most beautiful seasons, with full waterfalls and fewer people.
- Swimming is not allowed anywhere in the park.
