Croatia is a wonderful country for families: safe, short distances between sights, lots of nature and food that children actually eat. Here are the tips our drivers share most often with parents.
Child seats
Children must travel in a child seat or booster suitable for their age and size. With us, child and booster seats are free of charge – just tell us the ages of the children when you book, and the right seats will already be fitted when the driver arrives. If you prefer to bring your own seat, that is fine too.
Long drives with children
- Plan a break every two hours. Motorway rest areas in Croatia have clean toilets, cafés and often a small playground.
- Start early on summer days – the car stays cool and the children sleep for the first part of the journey.
- Ask for stops – a private driver can stop wherever you need, which a bus cannot.
- Snacks and water are always a good idea; we keep bottled water in the car.
Day trips from Zagreb that children love
- Plitvice Lakes – boardwalks over the water, fish in the lakes and a boat ride. Choose a short route; pushchairs are difficult on many paths, so a baby carrier is better. Plitvice day trip →
- Rastoke and Karlovac – water mills and waterfalls in Rastoke, and the freshwater aquarium in Karlovac. Rastoke & Karlovac →
- Krapina Neanderthal Museum – one of the most interesting museums in Croatia for children, in the Zagorje hills. Zagorje day trip →
- Trakošćan Castle – a real castle on a hill, with a lake to walk around. Trakošćan & Varaždin →
In Zagreb itself
Maksimir Park and Zagreb Zoo, the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla and the funicular to the Upper Town are favourites with children. Many restaurants have children’s menus or will happily make smaller portions.
Arriving with a family
After a flight with children, the last thing you want is a queue for a taxi. With a private transfer the driver is already waiting in the arrivals hall, helps with the luggage and the pushchair, and the child seats are fitted. Zagreb Airport transfer →
